Classroom Rules

My name is Mrs. Banks and I will be your child’s Mathematics teacher this year.  My goal is to make sure that your child succeeds in learning the 6th grade Math curriculum this school year.  I love teaching Math and I plan on making Math fun and exciting to learn.  I believe that teacher-parent communication is very important in ensuring your child’s success in my classroom this year. *  2-Spiral Notebooks(100 pages or more)*  Folder  * # 2 Pencils  * Pen for grading *  Pencil Sharpener  *  Student Planner (1st one provided by school) * Protractor  *  Compass

Student Planners:

Every student will be given a planner to write down daily assignments for classes.  Planners are MANDATORY to have in class EVERY DAY!  Please check planners daily to find out homework assignments, upcoming tests and quizzes, and for important notifications from the teacher to the parent. 

Bathroom Passes:

Students have 5 minutes to travel to their classes each hour.  This time should be used for bathroom usage.  If a child needs to use the bathroom during class, they MUST have their STUDENT PLANNERS with them in class to sign out for the bathroom.  Students have 3 bathroom passes to sign out in the planners per trimester.  No Exceptions!!  If a child forgets his/her planner and needs to use the rest room, a LUNCH DETENTION will be given for the 1st offense and an AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION for any offense thereafter.

Attendance:

Attendance in school and class is imperative.  If a student is absent, they are RESPONSIBLE to get the make-up work, complete any make-up work, and turn in completed work to the ABSENT WORK tray located in the classroom.

Tardies:  Any student who arrives late will be marked tardy.  3 tardies= lunch detention, 4 tardies= 1 hour after school detention, 5 tardies= 2 hour after school detention, 5 tardies= office referral

 

Classroom Procedures:

Each student is expected to arrive to class on time with ALL materials needed.

Students must enter the classroom QUIETLY and begin working on the PROBLEM of the DAY.  Pencils should be sharpened before class begins or within the 1st 5 minutes of class. Homework is due when class begins.  Completed assignments should be out on the desk ready to be checked within the first 5 minutes of class.

Math assignments MUST be done in PENCIL ONLY!!

Rules:

  1. NO GUM!!!!
  2. Enter the classroom QUIETLY and sit down in assigned seat.
  3. Respect others.
  4. Stay seated unless given permission to get up.
  5. Raise your hand if you wish to speak.
  6. Keep hands, feet, and any other objects to yourself.
  7. No talking!!

Grading/Homework:

Completed Homework assignments will be checked the next day in class after it is assigned.  Students MUST have their completed homework assignments in class, ready to be checked the next school day in order to receive credit for it.  A completed homework assignment will have all problems assigned completed in the proper format.

An incomplete assignment consists of only some of the problems assigned and will be missing the presentation of work needed to solve the problems.  Incomplete assignments will not receive full credit and may not be accepted depending on severity of missing work. **STUDENTS MUST SHOW WORK ON ASSIGNMENTS in order to receive full credit.**

Absent Work-  Students are responsible to get any and all missing work form the classroom and turn them in within the time allotted.  If a student is absent 1 day, they will receive 1 extra day to complete the homework. 

***LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED!!!***

Tests/Quizzes- I will give at least 4 days notice for an upcoming test.  Tests are usually multiple choice and OPEN BOOK.  Quizzes may or may not be multiple choice and are not OPEN BOOK.   Talking is not permitted during any test- failure to comply with this rule will result in a 0 for that test.

Extra Credit- There will be 1 or 2 extra credit assignments per trimester for students to complete.  I will not accept any Extra Credit assignment late for any reason.

 

Grading-  Tests / Quizzes = 70%, Homework =30%

*Completing all homework assignments is the best way to practice for a test or quiz.*
